As a Freight Broker Agent / Independent Contractor, you will be responsible for finding and retaining creditworthy customers that ship FTL, LTL, Intermodal and/or temperature controlled loads throughout the United States of America. The Freight Broker Agent / Independent Contractor should also know and demonstrate the ability to find and retain quality carriers and provide excellent customer service skills. A Freight Broker Agent / Independent Contractor provides professional-level support to leaders across the organization, as well as partner with other professionals across Erving's Connect Logistics operations, to achieve strategic and business targets. On our team, you’ll have the support to excel while utilizing our resources to build a career you can be proud of.
What you’ll do on a typical day:
Send out emails to all your shippers
Check and respond to emails from the previous day
Answer incoming calls for loads that you have posted
Check your load boards and refresh loads that has been sitting
Update loads via TMS that has been covered
Book loads via TMS that carriers call in for by sending out rate confirmations and links to get them set up
Read and respond to emails and carrier call outs for available equipment
Receive calls from carriers, watch your load boards, refresh your loads boards, call carriers as they post new available trucks to see if they want loads that you have posted
Prospect and set up new accounts, take calls from shippers and carriers
Provide quotes to shippers
Read and respond to email load lists from shippers
Tender loads from shippers
Take calls from your shippers concerning the loads you have already tendered from them
Negotiate rates with carriers
Email customers asking if they have anything going out tomorrow, this week etc...
Post loads for the next day
Prepare for tomorrow
How to be successful at Erving's Connect Logistics as a Freight Broker Agent / Independent Contractor:
Be able to multitask
Be able to use Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of how a TMS works
Knowledge of how loads boards work
Ability to support tasks of moderate complexity, which require discretion and independent judgment
Ability to work with minimal supervision, maintain confidentiality when appropriate, produce accurate output and meet deadlines
Must communicate with your team members and staff when you don't know something or don't know how to do something
Compensation. Experienced Freight Broker Agents with an active books of business receive 70% commission from day one. You will have access to our TMS, load boards, receive a business email address, have access to our Agent Portal and many other resources to help you succeed.
If you do not have experience, you will receive 60% commission from day one. If you do not have experience and an active book of business, you will have to purchase your Load Boards and TMS until you start moving loads.
